August 2025
Robin......
This is 'Robin' estimated to be around three months old. He was found out during the daytime in the middle of August. He's a bit of an odd one, in fact I haven't had one like him in over 35 years of rescue. Since admission, he did not venture out of his bed for days and would not feed himself. He would take hand feeds willingly but only formula, nothing else. At his age he should be on meaty chunks / biscuits not formula.
So after a week of continual three hourly hand feeds, FINALLY he left his bed and with a little coaxing he has at last begun to feed himself. The video was taken while he was feeding himself for the first time. I honestly don't know why he is why he is, as I can't see anything wrong, but now we have turned a corner hopefully he will start to behave like a normal juvenile hedgehog and not a two week old baby.
UPDATE: Over the past three weeks Robin has continued to improve. Very, very slowly getting him used to solid foods until now when he is on just kitten kibble. It's been a long slow process with this one and because of this I have decided not to release him yet. The plan is to place him in a secure garden for the Autumn / Winter months so I can keep an eye on him and make sure he is able to fend for himself once released, hopefully next Spring.
Alf......
This is 'Alf' admitted on 7th August from the Hambleton area after being found out during the day. He is quite an old chap and in pretty poor condition with a severely infected front leg which he was not able to put any weight on. I tried him outside on the lawn to see how he was doing, and the treatment received appears to be working as he was now using the leg, albeit very slowly. Hopefully this will now improve over the next few days as he continues his recovery.
UPDATE: Alf has now been released back into the wild into a safe garden where there is backup provided.
Sharon......
Small juvenile female hedgehog rescued after bring spotted on a busy road on 2nd August. Very hungry weighs just over 200gms. She received treatment for a host of internal nasties, and once her weight was 575gms she was released back into a safe release area five weeks later.
