From small beginnings in a back garden shed, Lancashire’s very own Hedgehog Hospital based in Poulton-le-Fylde has grown over the years to become Lancashire's leading hedgehog care and rehabilitation Centre. We became a Registered Charity in May 2002.
Our aims:
* To provide a rescue, treatment and rehabilitation service to relieve the suffering and distress of sick, injured and orphaned hedgehogs in need of care and attention, with the aim to rehabilitate as many of these as possible back into the wild.
* To educate the public in the care, treatment, conservation and habitat of hedgehogs.
We do not receive any funding from elsewhere and rely solely on donations made by kind members of the public, grants and our own fundraising activities to keep the Centre open.
Hedgehogs that are in need of care are generally referred to us by the R.S.P.C.A, local Veterinary Centres, The British Hedgehog Preservation Society and St. Tiggywinkles. Disabled and elderly hedgehogs that would struggle to survive back in the wild are found suitable, fully secure gardens. There they can safely live out the rest of their lives while being cared for in a semi-wild environment.
The Centre cares for over 300 hedgehog casualties every year, and we strive to provide each and every one with the highest possible standards of care. We also deal with many telephone calls and emails both nationwide and from overseas regarding hedgehog welfare.
