A fundraising event attended by Lancashire Hedgehog Care in Fleetwood.
Charity event at a local school fete where pupils queued to see baby hedgehogs. It was nice to see so many youngsters interested (and adults too) as educating and raising awareness into valuing and respecting wildlife is an important part of what we do.
About us
Our Rescue Centre is located in Poulton-le-Fylde which is seven miles from Blackpool and was initially set up to try and help the many hedgehogs that are injured or maimed mainly because of the ever-increasing close contact humans have with wildlife today. We became registered as a Charitable Trust in 2002.
Our aims are:
* To provide a rescue, treatment and rehabilitation service to relieve the suffering and distress of sick, injured and orphaned hedgehogs in need of care and attention, with the aim to rehabilitate as many of these as possible back into the wild.
* To educate the public in the care, treatment, conservation and habitat of hedgehogs.
We do not receive any funding from elsewhere and rely solely on donations made by kind members of the public and our own fundraising activities to keep the Rescue Centre open.
We provide care and treatment for hundreds of casualties every year. Many are referred to us by the R.S.P.C.A, local Veterinary Centres, The British Hedgehog Preservation Society and St. Tiggywinkles. Disabled and elderly hedgehogs that would struggle to survive back in the wild are found suitable, fully secure gardens. They are then able to live out the rest of their lives in safety, whilst being cared for in a semi-wild environment.
